Through a mix of espionage, exploitation of prisoners, and the defection of scientists, the Soviet Union gained deep insight into German super-soldier and gene-splicing programs. Determined to create soldiers immune to extreme cold, Soviet scientists went further than intended—and in doing so, created true monstrosities. These enhanced troops, known as Ghouls, have antifreeze-like fluid in their veins and are completely immune to both cold and fire.
