Soviet Nkvd Squad

In 1941, the Soviet Union’s fortified borders were guarded by units of the NKVD (People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs). These formations were heavily hit during the initial weeks of the German invasion and suffered near-total destruction. Following these losses, NKVD troops were primarily used for internal security tasks, but they also fought on the frontlines in major battles such as Stalingrad in 1942 and the Crimean Offensive in 1944.
