Once the United States Armed Forces have received the M8 Grizzly medium walker in sufficient numbers, excess production is diverted to the Commonwealth under the Lend-Lease scheme. By this time, research into equipping Commonwealth vehicles, including walkers, with automated assistance systems is well underway. Rather than being pressed into service, the shipment is sent to Bovington for study. The Commonwealth grows concerned that relying entirely on the US for walkers leaves it too dependent on a foreign supplier, especially as cracks in the relationship between the two nations begin to appear.
