German Grenadiers Squad (winter)

Germany’s far-reaching campaigns during World War II brought its soldiers into vastly different environments, from the sands of North Africa to the icy plains of the Soviet Union. Nowhere was the shock of climate more devastating than on the Eastern Front, where early German advances gave way to brutal winter conditions. Caught without proper gear, many soldiers suffered from the cold as much as from Soviet resistance. Over time, industry and improvisation helped provide the troops with warmer, more effective winter clothing.
